Direct observation of quantum percolation dynamics

Abstract Percolation, describing critical behaviors of phase transition in a geometrical context, prompts wide investigations natural and social networks as fundamental model. The introduction quantum coherence superposition brings percolation into regime with more fascinating phenomena unique features, which, however, has not been experimentally explored yet. Here we successfully map these large-scale porous structures photonic chip using femtosecond laser direct writing techniques present an experimental demonstration transport hexagonal lattices, probed by coherent light. A threshold 80% is observed the prototyped laser-written lattices up to 1,600 waveguides, which significantly larger than classical counterpart 63%. We also investigate spatial confinement localization parameters exhibit from ballistic diffusive propagation decrease occupation probability. Direct observation may deepen understanding relation among materials, transport, geometric quenching, disorder localization, inspire applications for technologies.
